BARTON’s business is built on the responsible use of natural resources. We have developed and implemented an extensive environmental management system to: identify potential impacts from our mining and processing operations; establish protocols to minimize those impacts; and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Our commitment to environmental stewardship has been enhanced by a partnership with Nordic Mining ASA. Nordic mining operates an advanced, CO2-saving, low greenhouse gas-emission mine producing garnet with a low carbon footprint. We are proud to bring to market the first European garnet abrasive with short, safe supply routes from the mine to customers throughout Europe.
- 80 HPA is sustainably produced in Europe by our partner Nordic Mining at their state-of-the-art mine powered by 100% renewable energy.
- Our mining and processing technologies result in the lowest carbon footprint worldwide, with low transport emissions to European customers.
- TUV verification confirms that HPA has the lowest CO2 emissions compared to imports from distant mining operations.
HPX is produced with a clean, wind-powered source of electricity.
BARTON’s global headquarters is LEED Platinum Certified. A vegetated, green roof and storm-water-collection system significantly enhance water conservation and a geothermal well field generates energy-efficient heating and cooling.
A portion of our original garnet mine property has been developed into a solar farm that today generates nearly three million kilowatt hours of clean electricity per year, eliminating an estimated 1,275 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
